Fulfilling the Tide of Persecution Prophecy Part I

By:Dana Smith

In a sweeping motion, Jesus Christ, the son of God spoke of the last days. The disciples, gathered around him, the one who was the Yeshua HaMassiach, the promised one to come. Even Moses spoke of this one God would send. This "Iam" even told the religious leaders, "Before Abraham was, I AM"..The Jews of his day knew He was associating Himself with Yahweh, who told Moses in response to his question "whom should I say sent me?" The voice from the burning bush said "I am, tell them I am hath sent me". This is the eternal one. The one who from the beginning spoke things into existance. The one who calls the end from the beginning. The one in whom all the promises would become fulfilled.

As the disciples listened, this Messiah would tell them the things that would happen to their generation and the following generations. We get the vivid picture of these words. Even today, scholars, bible readers, and followers of Jesus Christ revere the Words of this Son of God, who is the only Savior. His Words that paint a picture of our day and the end of days.

In Luke, particularly we get a personal glimpse of the way things will be. Over time, since the Words of Christ were spoken, they have become fulfilled, other passages will be upon his returning to earth. It is not uncommon in prophecy for the words to come to pass more than once. Prophecy looks upon the mountains of time, in the process of events and this ends up as history. Between the mountains, are the daily events that the mountainous prophetic events oversee. Following Christ we saw the words come to life as the Temple of the jews, Jerusalem, and countless numbers of Jews were slaughtered by the Roman legions in the period after the crucifixion of Christ. He had foretold it all. Then we saw the outpouring of the Spirit, the eruption of the church and countless souls becoming followers of Jesus Christ. Following that we saw terrible suffering and persecution of the church, this too was foretold. Now as we enter what we believe to be the "end times", we see another great phase in the church.
Jesus told them in Luke 21:10-11 " Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven." These words were among many describing the times and events forshadowing the great tribulation and the second coming of Christ [Yeshua HaMassiach-the hebrew messianic title]. As we walk through this history of the endtimes, we can plainly see these things come to pass. But what we are about to talk about next is the following words of Christ that point plainly to a time of terrible hatred for the believers.
Jesus then spoke in Luke 21:12-19 and said that before all these {things were to happen}words & parenthesis mine," they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake. And it shall turn to you for a testimony. Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake. But there shall not an hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls." These words were a picture of the things that were to happen before you were to see all the wars, famines, fearful signs. The words paint a picture of extreme hatred for the believers living in that time. Simply put, they were hated. The christians were painfully persecuted in several periods during the Roman occupation. This continues today with christians in this modern world. Even though, we see the times of the end, the words of Christ about persecution given so many decades ago did not say that once the signs of the end started that persecution would cease. No, in fact, read Revelation and see that the "Antichrist" will make war with the saints living on the earth then and will overcome them. We see the Prophet Daniel and John both make reference to this time on earth. A time when the Evil one who is to come has really come and started a war against the saints.

Daniel 7:21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them
Revelation 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

As we walk down the corridor of history one need only look around and see these words of ‘War against the Saints’ coming to pass. For instance in the United Kingdom there is a new hate bill being drafted. Now this new hate bill sounds good, but the hate is seen as coming from those who would preach against ungodliness. In this story titled Witches see an opportunity in new hate bill by Jon Ungoed-Thomas, we see for example that the opponents of this bill say "that it could also be abused by members of religious cults who could complain to the police about anyone who insulted their beliefs. A similar law in Australia was used by a jailed witch to launch a criminal prosecution of the Salvation Army after it criticised witchcraft. Under the act satanists and witches would be able to complain about priests vilifying their beliefs. The stirring up of hatred against people of any religious faith will carry a maximum seven-year jail sentence." Now the ones who have been facing jail time have been christians that preach the bible. As we all know, the bible makes declarations that many do not like. As Christians we are to speak the truth in love, but none the less speak it.
